3STOP LIV Systems – safer braking of waste containers from every direction

15.07.2026

LIV Systems has developed the patented 3STOP castor – a braking system with three evenly spaced pedals that provides access to the brake from every direction. This means that at least one brake pedal is always within reach, regardless of how the container is positioned or parked.

What is 3STOP?

3STOP provides 360° access to a braking system for waste-container castors. Instead of a single brake pedal, the castor has three pedals arranged around the wheel. This design allows the operator to activate the brake more quickly and without unnecessarily moving the container into another position.

With standard 660-litre and 1,100-litre containers, the brake pedal often ends up under the container or in a position that is difficult to reach. The operator must therefore first pull, push or turn the container before the brake can be activated. 3STOP solves this problem with a brake that is accessible from every direction.

Why is an accessible brake important on waste containers?

Handling large waste containers involves repeated moving, pushing, pulling and braking. This places strain on the back, shoulders, arms and legs, especially when working on slopes, kerbs, uneven ground or in confined spaces.

If the brake pedal is difficult to reach, handling the container takes longer and the work becomes less fluid. A more accessible brake enables faster stopping and less unnecessary repositioning of the container as well as greater safety during everyday municipal waste collection.

Key benefits of the 3STOP system

The brake is accessible from every direction

The main benefit of the 3STOP system is 360° access to the brake pedal. The three pedals are positioned so that one is always within reach of the operator’s foot. There is no need to search for the correct brake position or turn the container further.

This is particularly useful for containers that are frequently moved across different surfaces, parked next to kerbs or positioned in confined spaces.

Less unnecessary movement of the container

With conventional designs, the brake pedal may face away from the operator or be hidden beneath the container. This means extra movements, more physical effort and slower work.

The 3STOP system simplifies braking because the operator can reach the brake more quickly and stop the container without additional manoeuvring. The result is a smoother workflow, particularly when large numbers of containers are emptied and moved frequently.

Easy retrofit for existing containers

3STOP uses the same mounting method and dimensions as standard LIV castors for containers. It can therefore be fitted to existing 660-litre and 1,100-litre containers without any additional structural modifications.

It is a practical upgrade that can improve the usability of existing equipment and enable the gradual modernisation of a container fleet.

Made in Europe from recycled materials

LIV castors are designed and manufactured in Europe. Recycled materials from the EU are used in production: the rubber tyres are made from 100% recycled rubber, while the polypropylene wheel centres are made from recycled automotive plastic.

Production is carried out in accordance with the ISO 14001 environmental standard, supporting the sustainability goals of companies and municipal services seeking more responsible solutions for municipal equipment.

Where is 3STOP most commonly used?

The 3STOP system is intended for waste containers where fast, safe and simple braking is important. The most common applications are:

  • 660-litre municipal waste containers.
  • 1,100-litre municipal waste containers.
  • Containers that are frequently moved over uneven surfaces.
  • Containers in collection centres, warehouses and industrial environments.
  • Containers used daily by municipal service companies.
  • Existing containers where an upgrade to a more accessible braking system is beneficial.

Tested in practice

The 3STOP system was also tested in a pilot programme with Publikus, one of the larger waste collection companies in Slovenia. According to operator feedback, the new castor improved the user experience when handling containers because the brake is easier to access and operate.

Certificates and technical features

The 3STOP castor, like other LIV castors for waste containers, is certified in accordance with EN 840-5 and RAL 951/1 by the SKZ institute in Germany.

Important system features:

  • 360° accessible braking system.
  • 3 pedals providing access to the brake from different directions.
  • Suitable for 660 l and 1,100 l containers.
  • The same mounting method as standard LIV castors for containers.
  • Existing containers can be retrofitted.
  • Made in Europe.
  • Use of recycled materials.
  • Production in accordance with ISO 14001.

Transport castors at M&M Intercom

M&M Intercom offers a broad selection of transport castors for industry, logistics, workshops, equipment and containers. Load capacity, floor surface, method of use, environmental conditions and the need for a brake must all be considered when making a selection.

For waste containers, weather resistance, stability, reliable braking and low rolling resistance are particularly important. A correctly selected castor makes movement easier, reduces physical effort and contributes to safer everyday container use.
